From running laps in gym class to opening the first Scoop Shop in Burlington, Vermont, Ben and Jerry have always been a couple of cool dudes. Thankfully that cred carried over to their ice cream company, and as a result we’ve been able to team up with some pretty fun people and causes throughout the years.
These are our 11 favorite flavors inspired by pop culture icons:
-
Cherry Garcia (1987)
We created Cherry Garcia after a fan suggested we name a flavor after Jerry. Now, more than 20 years later, this iconic blend of cherry and chocolate still dominates the grocer’s freezer. What a long, strange trip it’s been!
-
Wavy Gravy (1993)
Wavy Gravy was a peace activist clown who famously emceed the 1969 Woodstock Music and Arts Festival. We loved his ideals, and he loved the hazelnut swirl in his flavor!
-
Phish Food® (1996)
We’re from Vermont! Phish is from Vermont! We make ice cream! Phish eats ice cream! For these reasons and a thousand more, we were proud to honor our favorite foursome with their very own flavor.
-
Festivus (2003)
The airing of grievances, feats of strength, and, of course, the aluminum pole. This non-holiday holiday was just begging to be honored with its own flavor, so we went ahead and did just that. It was a Festivus miracle!
-
Bohemian Raspberry (2006)
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? We like to think this flavor was a little bit of both, and with proceeds from the sale going to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, we think the late Queen singer would have agreed.
-
Imagine Whirled Peace (2007)
We’ve been talking about peace, love and ice cream for as long as we can remember. When it came time to turn that message into a flavor, we couldn’t think of a better person to exemplify the message than John Lennon.
-
Americone Dream (2007)
Stephen Colbert’s signature blend of truthiness was just begging for its own flavor. So we obliged with vanilla ice cream, chocolate covered waffle pieces and a caramel swirl. Nation, this flavor salutes you!
-
Bonnaroo Buzz (2010)
We’d partnered with individual musicians, so linking up with a festival seemed like the next logical step. We searched high and low for the right one, and we landed on Bonnaroo. 60,000+ festival goers can’t be wrong.
-
Schweddy Balls (2011)
Pete Schweddy made some delicious holiday balls. We got one taste and knew his Schweddy family recipe belonged in its own limited edition holiday flavor. People loved our Schweddy Balls.
-
Scotchy Scotch Scotch (2013)
60% of the time, it tasted delicious every time. This limited batch flavor celebrated everything from yogging to jazz flutes to newborn baby pandas.
-
Satisfy My Bowl (2014)
Can you believe it’s been 30 years since Bob Marley released Legend? Time flies when you’re making ice cream! This flavor partners with the 1Love Foundation to support Bob’s vision for a fairer world. Music to your ears and taste buds!
